[Market to Table] Sunflowers & Queen Anne's Lace

Monday, June 18, 2012

In honor of Father's Day, I decided to make a special bouquet in honor of my dad, who passed away at age 47 from pancreatic cancer. Sunflowers were his favorite flower, and we always had a few growing in our backyard. Seeing them always transports me back to great summer memories of our backyard barbeques and eating tomatoes and strawberries off the vine in the garden beneath them.

By the way, if you aren't familiar with the disease, please check out PanCan to learn more and consider donating to the cause. With a survival rate of just 4% after five years, pancreatic cancer is one of the scariest and fastest killers out there, and it deserves much more attention and funds for research.

My dad actually died of cancer when I was little too so we always celebrate my mom on both holidays. Yesterday she scored some sprinkles cupcakes :)
